International Bank – 132 x Device Server Relocation incl. Structured Cabling

Data Centre Relocation

Major International Bank
Redcentric Woking to DRT Woking

PROJECT OVERVIEW

A major international bank required the migration of critical IT infrastructure from its existing co-location environment into newly provisioned racks within the same Data Centre facility.

The project involved the design and installation of a complete structured cabling solution across 14 racks, alongside the relocation of 132 production devices within a single weekend migration window. The solution needed to provide high-density copper and fibre connectivity while ensuring minimal risk to critical banking services.

THE CHALLENGE

The client required a fully managed solution that combined both infrastructure deployment and physical migration services under a single provider.

The migration programme needed to be completed within a tightly controlled downtime window, requiring detailed planning, comprehensive asset auditing, and pre-installation of all cabling infrastructure ahead of the migration weekend. Any delays or connectivity issues had the potential to impact critical business operations.

OUR SOLUTION

Joyce Solutions delivered a complete end-to-end service encompassing design, structured cabling, migration planning, and physical relocation activities.

Our team completed a detailed hardware and connectivity audit, capturing all asset, rack, power, and cabling information to create a comprehensive migration plan.

Working closely with the client’s network team, we designed and installed a Leviton HDX and UHDX structured cabling solution comprising:

• 580 Category 6A shielded copper links
• OM4 fibre interconnects between racks
• OS2 fibre connections to Meet-Me Rooms and third-party carriers

All cabling infrastructure was installed, tested, labelled, and documented prior to migration weekend. Dedicated copper and fibre routing systems were implemented to ensure optimal cable management and future scalability.

To reduce migration risk, all destination racks were fully pre-cabled ahead of the move, enabling equipment to be installed and connected quickly during the migration window.

The migration itself involved the de-racking, secure transportation, reinstallation, and recommissioning of 132 devices. Specialist flight cases and anti-static packaging were used throughout, with senior engineering support provided through power-up, testing, and final handover.

RESULTS

• 132 production devices successfully relocated
• 580 structured cabling links installed and certified
• 14 racks fully commissioned and operational
• Migration completed within a single weekend outage window
• Zero reported service-impacting incidents
• Full documentation and warranty certification delivered

CLIENT BENEFITS

By combining structured cabling, migration planning, engineering delivery, and project management within a single service, Joyce Solutions enabled the client to complete a complex Data Centre migration with reduced risk, improved efficiency, and complete confidence in the final infrastructure deployment.
