Network hardware upgrade in a time-pressured environment
THE CHALLENGE
White & Case, a global law firm specialising in major financial institutions, needed to upgrade its core, distribution and access network hardware. They needed specialist installation and migration support for replacing over 50 network devices. This had to be completed in a very narrow downtime window as its staff often work extended hours.
OUR SOLUTION
With an implementation plan scoped out to ensure business- critical work wouldn’t be affected, the upgrade took place over the course of two weekends. Ten Cisco multi-blade switch chassis were removed, and replaced with over 50 new switches, along with power bars to all racks and new inter-floor fibre cabling.
THE OUTCOMES
While JSC was happy to provide full post-transfer support, no significant issues were reported. As a result, the client was able to:
- Complete the upgrade without any disruption to normal business operations
- Save on labour costs by outsourcing hardware upgrades so that its own IT staff could focus on network processing
- Resolve any future issues faster and with less manual involvement
